Dr. Mary Smith received a PhD in Nursing from the University of Victoria in 2018 and completed the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program at McMaster University in 2002. She has been a RN since 1991. Presently, Mary is also an Assistant Professor at Queen’s University in the School of Nursing and is the Lead Course Professor for the Roles and Responsibilities course in the Ontario Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program. In addition, she is the course professor for N202 Health Assessment and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Faculty Lead for the School of Nursing at Queen’s University. She is keenly interested in furthering Indigenous health through community driven and culturally safe research approaches. Mary has been actively involved in mental health care and education and is currently a medical member of the Consent and Capacity Board. Dr. Smith and her research team are currently engaged towards finding strength-based Indigenous solutions towards chronic kidney health.
